It should be noted that each country had the presence of specific groups.

In Belize, it was the Garifuna; in Costa Rica the Malekus; in El Salvador the Nahuat-Pipil, in Guatemala, the Mayas; in Honduras the Lencas; in Nicaragua the Niquiranos and in Panama the Emberá.

Another inspirational element was the flora of the region. We took references from the floral emblem of each country: the Black Orchid from Belize, the Monja Blanca orchid from Guatemala; Flor de Izote from El Salvador; the Orchid from Honduras; the Plumeria (Sacuanjoche) from Nicaragua; the Guaria Morada orchid from Costa Rica and the Flor del Espíritu Santo orchid from Panamá.

Integrating all elements

One of the biggest challenges, while integrating all these elements, was to find a way to showcase the union of all our countries which in the end would give us the guideline to be able to continue with the creative process.

The use of this empirical creative method also helped us to create certain pathways, in order to showcase that we were previously a unified social and political entity.

One of the most important values for creating the logo was the belief of being countries with a magical and colorful touch. These patterns are present in each country, from Belize to Panama, particularly in our roots, that shows where we come from.

First round of logo drafts

Our core identity

Creating experience and meaning

We tried to use our national flora, our beautiful birds that live within the Central American region, as well as our ancestors who have left a great legacy throughout history. Thus being the origin of our proposal for WordCamp Centroamérica.

We had the support of the organizers and experts on the subject, who suggested representing the natural richness of the area. As mentioned previously, the petal in the center is highlighted as the color of the host country for each edition of the event.

Yellow represents the vibrant Guatemala, it was selected as a strong and characteristic color of the City of Antigua Guatemala. Also, for the happiness, joy and generosity of its people.

Red was given to exotic Costa Rica, for two main reasons. One of them, for being a distinctive color in the traditional costume and the national flag. Second, representing the fight for freedom and the love of life.

The turquoise was assigned to Belize, for its majestic turquoise waters. And they represent the natural, relaxing and engulfing beauty of its landscapes.

Dark blue was awarded to Nicaragua, as it is a country where lakes and seas predominate. Likewise, it reflects the freedom and loyalty of the Nicaraguan people.

The pink is the color of the flower of the Maquilishuat, a main symbol of El Salvador. In the same way it represents the kindness, dedication and generosity of the Salvadoran people.

The light blue belongs to Panama for being one of the countries that strive every day to undertake new ventures. Its wonderful Canal that connects with the two main oceans: the Atlantic and the Pacific, that union that represents serenity and responsibility.

Honduras is of course represented by the orange color that reminds us of the simplicity, warmth and vivacity of the Honduran people, that leads them to be stronger every day.

Our future: Let’s continue making history

We will follow the timeline as the years go by, with the different variations that our logo can have for future WordCamps:

Excited to begin a new era

We are very happy to have explored the features that made us feel unique.
